Global Reach Technology Powers Hotspot 2.0 at the WBA WiFi Global Congress for Third Time

SAN JOSE – 14 October, 2015 – GlobalReach Technology, is providing a Hotspot 2.0 online sign-up (OSU) server for the third time at the WBA’s WiFi Global Congress in San Jose this week.

The service is enabled by the cloud-hosted GlobalReach Wi-Fi platform, Odyssys™. The live next generation hotspot (NGH) network will be in place at The San Jose Convention Centre in San Jose, California. Accuris Networks, AIRI Point Dume, BSG Wireless, GlobalReach Technology and Syniverse will act as the main hub providers. The service will be used for seamless authentication and roaming for 600+ delegates.

GlobalReach will be demonstrating live devices with credentials to allow the cellular-like, seamless and secure authentication.

In association with the local authorities, the network also includes outdoor locations in downtown San Jose where users can experience roaming at popular tourist locations.

GlobalReach has a rich history with California’s Silicon Valley Wi-Fi. Working with San Francisco and San Jose GlobalReach created the world’s first large-scale municipal Passpoint™ Hotspot 2.0 service, allowing millions of visitors and residents to automatically and securely connect to the internet.

Operators involved in the live demonstration include: AT&T, Bell Mobility, Boingo, BT, Cable Labs, China Mobile, Comcast, dU, FON, KT, Linktel, Mobily, NTT docomo, Orange, PCCW HKT, Portugal Telecom, PT Telecom Indonesia, Shaw, SK Telecom, Sprint, Swisscom, T-Mobile USA, Telstra, Telus, Towerstream and True.

Local users with Passpoint™ enabled smartphones, laptops and tablets suited to join the NGH service can experience a one-time download of the profile for seamless roaming at other NGH hotspots in the future.

These include smartphones such as Mediatek Smartphone, Qualcomm Smartphone, Broadcom Smartphone, Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S and Note – and the tablets and laptops: Intel Laptop, Apple iPad, and the Marvell Plug Computer.

Global Reach and Ruckus to join San Francisco and San Jose Wi-Fi services using Passpoint™ Hotspot 2.0 technology.

Ruckus Wireless and GlobalReach Technology will help to join San Francisco’s and San Jose’s Wi-Fi services, so that visitors can connect to both automatically without having to sign up twice.

The new service, which will be HotSpot 2.0-based, will make it easy for residents and visitors to move between one Wi-Fi network and another. San Francisco and San Jose are two of the first cities to make use of the new Wi-Fi standard, which is also known as Passpoint, reports computerworld.com.
